Top Canada Jobs: Oil Industry Careers Take The #1 Spot In Hot Jobs List

The latest list of hot jobs for Canada is in and the findings reveal that the top job spots are currently being occupied by various positions in the field of oil and gas.

Job growth is faster in this industry than any other. In fact, it has a recorded job increase of almost 35% since 2010, and this number is expected to continue in 2014.

Despite a high recorded median hourly earnings of $27.71, however, this industry is still seeing shortage in skilled workers because of the lower number of individuals enrolling in and graduating from programs in this field.

Both high-skilled positions and support roles in the oil and gas industry need to be filled up right now. Below is a list of the specific occupations that need filling up, the hourly wage for the said occupations and the job changes from 2010-2013:

Median hourly earnings: $33.78
Change in jobs: 24 percent increase (2,800)

Median hourly earnings: $27.71
Change in jobs: 33 percent increase (2,741)

Supervisors, oil and gas drilling and service
Median hourly earnings: $37.30
Change in jobs: 15 percent increase (1,962)

Primary production managers (except agriculture)
Median hourly earnings: $48.53
Change in jobs: 45 percent increase (1,861)

Oil and gas drilling, servicing and related laborers
Median hourly earnings: $24.14
Change in jobs: 30 percent increase (1,641)

Truck drivers
Median hourly earnings: $20.10
Change in jobs: 35 percent increase (1,448)

Heavy equipment operators (except crane operators)
Median hourly earnings: $24.60
Change in jobs: 39 percent increase (1,307)
